Traditional locs vs Sisterlocks

WHAT IS THE REAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM?

  • One of the major difference is the time it takes to grow traditional locs as oppose to the time it takes to get Sisterlocks
  • Sisterlocks allows you to have the 'look' of locs without going through the phases of locking your hair
  • Traditional locs are cultivated over a period of time (months)
  • Relaxed hair will not lock successfully with Traditional locs
  • Sisterlocks can be installed on relaxed hair
  • They both can grow to long lengths
  • Once locked they are both low-maintenance
  • Sisterlocks should be installed by a trained technician
  • Anyone with the skills can initiate traditional locs
  • Traditional locks is much cheaper to install than Sisterlocks

See the comparison below...it's all about what works for you!

Give me your thoughts!!!!

  1. They are both lovely but the sisterlocks takes way too long for me.

  3. I like the Sisterlocks because it gives you the versatility to still do alot with your hair. Still have the option to braid, weave or style to your preferred fancy!

  5. I agree on the patience comment. Also that sisterlocks seems to be versatile, havent seen anyone venture there yet though... so how it will look practically, i'll see. I had traditional locks for a season. My hair in sisterlocks would have been too much hair. Loved the locks, no regrets, easy maintenance, no combing.

  7. I think sister locks look really good, but I personally prefer the traditional dreadlocks. I've had my dreadlocks for 5 years and it has grown to quite a good length. I've coloured mine and they are small enough so that I have the versatility to style and even curl them whenener I desire to and as a mom of 3 kids, this hairstyle works for me. Even though it may be considered to be low maintenance, you still need to take care of your hair to ensure it looks healthy.... I massage my scalp and moisturise it as well as my locks, steam it with protein conditioner & natural oil treatment especially when I colour it. I think it's a matter of personal preference really and what works for each person such as how long it takes to get done, the price (sister locks take a lot longer to have done and is also more expensive) and also the look you would like to have.

  9. I loooooooovve sisterlocks. But I have seen folks with traditional locks that look great as well. Size and length are all a matter of personal preference, I guess.
